THE LION EFFECT
ONE DEGREE FROM FLOW

Introducing…
The Lion Effect
The Strategic Version of the Peter Sellers’ movie, “Being There”
THE ASK… is the mission we choose to undertake.
THE TASK… is how our vision is realized.
THE PRIZE… is the state of FLOW where we come alive.
WE ARE ONE DEGREE FROM FLOW
Once upon a time, no one had heard of The Beatles. No one had imagined the Internet or had the faintest clue what a Starbuck was. Hit Fast-forward: “Online” is where we are daily. Starbucks is Coffee As We Know It and The Beatles… I mean, THE BEATLES! Right???
This is the nature of Change. Nothing happens until it does. And when it does – like a Tsunami – it’s everywhere all at once. Whether we’re positioned to ride the crest of the breaking wave, inundated or swept away, how we see our place in the world is never quite the same.
WE CAN STOP YOUR STALL BEFORE YOU FALL!

*Stall speed refers to the minimum speed at which an airplane must fly to produce Lift and Flow. If an airplane flies slower than its stall speed, it will no longer generate enough lift to stay airborne.
S * T * A * L * L
> When we “STORY” a negative slant on a problem or situation, we highlight failure to the exclusion of everything else.
> When we “TALK” the story obsessively, we create an internal loop tape that drowns out everything else.
> When we “ATTACH” our self-worth and identity to this story, we cast ourselves in the role of…
a) hopeless loser;
b) tragic, fallen hero;
c) dark, unworthy villain.
There are no layers in these characters: they are primitive line drawings in black and white.
> When we “LASH” out at the world and ourselves, we create an exhausting, lingering, festering scar. We slip into a jaded ego state (I’m untouchable) of brain-fog indifference,
> When we “LOWER” our sights, “LIMIT” our vision and “LAME-BLAME-SHAME” ourselves. We abandon our Innate Lion greatness. We become The Dark Jackal who mocks us for failing to show our true magnificent selves.
HOW WE RECOVER: ONE DEGREE FROM FLOW
We are always One Degree from our natural Flow State.
We reach it by Training to Maintain our focus and our passion.
PIVOTRY IN MOTION
The shift we achieve in mood, mindset and attitude is Pivotry in Motion. It happens when “It’s not that bad” becomes “Not good enough” and we’re ready, curious, eager and hungry … to roar … to soar … to claim what is meant for us.
The best among us learn to anticipate the recurring waves of Change. No matter how successful they’ve been, they don’t allow their Ego to get in the way of the work they do to continue to grow. They set boundaries that prevent stress from obscuring their vision or blocking the paths they follow.
What they achieve with this kind of balance is the mental-emotional-energetic state we know as FLOW. As we reach FLOW, our ability to dial in on what matters and resist external distractions grows. Our capacity for learning and our desire to “train to maintain” keeps us ready to ride the next cresting wave; ready to keep the toxic jackals at bay; ready to leverage the power and momentum of the waves of Change.
Change brings challenges we fail to see coming; that we fail to prepare for and fail to meet with success.
Why? They had fallen prey to The Four Jackals: Ego/Greed … Overwhelm/Exhaustion … Grief/Depression … Rage/Fear.
They had lost their hunger to grow and their access to FLOW, where passion fuels drive and excellence. They hadn’t bothered to “train to maintain.” When they were called to Excellence Training Camp… they’d failed the test.
We Are Always One Degree From Flow
Until We Learn to Train To Maintain
Our decision to shift away from Ego-External influences and choose the clarity of Internal Flow is the One Degree we talk about that separates us from our potential for excellence, growth and resilience. Choosing the work that closes the distance is a moment-by-moment decision. When we opt to navigate the turning point that frees us from the adrenalin rush; when we resist the pull of toxic-past and scary-future scenarios, we clear the way to our fresh possibilities.
Pivotry in Motion
This powerful turning point moment is our mental/emotional reset ability that triggers our instinct to opt IN or OUT
… IN to follow our passion … OUT to give in to the pull of “familiar is safe” and “less is okay” and “it’s not that bad today anyway.”
Ego/Greed
The turning point in our rise to success comes when we forget why we came.
We reach the point of STALL in our Ascent when we forget that we are mere mortals and begin to believe our Press Releases. We fall fast and hit hard when we fail to see that excellence has always been the product of showing up and leaning in.
Overwhelm/Exhaustion
We define the state of “Overwhelm” as the product of Mental Confusion plus Emotional Exhaustion aggravated by prolonged exposure to External Stressors and Uncertainty. When we allow ourselves to be influenced by External signals and drivers, we are more susceptible to Overwhelm. We learn to distance ourselves from Overwhelm with simple, yet effective stress release tools that restore our internal focus and connection to our natural state of FLOW.
Grief/Depression
The pre-frontal cortex (front of brain) is where our Executive Function (cause-and-effect) skills develop, typically in late adolescence. Unexpected and/or extended exposure to sources of trauma and and stress can interrupt or irreparably impair Executive Function development. What this can look like in life … a CEO suddenly unable to use their ‘super power’ abilities in the wake of a tragic death, unexpected disaster or the loss of status-related assets, roles or skills.
Rage/Fear
Our primal brain is hard-wired for survival against impossible odds. When we enter a room or take to the stage, this brain believes there’s a tiger out there. Cortisol fuels our primal drive to react to external distractions. Dopamine brings us back to the source of our unique strength: To the Lion Within, where our greatness lives.
The Lion Effect
Success & Resilience Recovery
The Lion Effect is how we help you find your way back to your vision, passion, purpose and drive. Step by step, we help you find your Flow, where clarity and focus make you invincible.
Success is a process. Resilience is a practice. We have the capacity to excel when we invest in self-care as a way to enhance, nurture and support our ability to feel and heal… because no amount of physical readiness can override the prolonged emotional damage caused by stress, overwhelm and untreated, chronic trauma.
Resilience Recovery
When we Train to Maintain the way we Feel and Heal, our focus is learning how to access our state of Internal Flow.
Our Lion Effect portfolio of techniques and tools identify and address the emotional confusion and mental conflict we struggle with when the External Messaging we receive contradicts our emerging or established intentions, passions and beliefs.
Why This Matters and Who It Serves
Our Global Village population has experienced increasing isolation, disconnect and loneliness since we entered the virtual reality of a social media world. No longer feeling seen or heard, spending less time with close friends or loved ones, we have drifted into an uncharted sea of uncertainty. And then, a Global pandemic that came with no How To instruction booklet. Relationships suffered. Businesses closed. Careers ended. People died. Today, our capacity for Joy and Passion, Compassion and Drive is fighting an uphill battle to survive.
